Buenos Aires, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) President Alberto Fernandez on Tuesday bluntly said that the Falkland Islands were, are and will be part of Argentina, 40 years after the conflict that led to a war with the United Kingdom.
Argentina is interested in a third phase of the Humanitarian Project Plan which has successfully helped with the identification of Argentine combatants fallen in the Falklands/Malvinas during the 1982 South Atlantic conflict, triggered by the Argentine invasion of the Islands. Argentine president Alberto Fernandez made the announcement during his annual March first speech to Congress, officially opening the legislative year.
On Friday Falkland Islands lawmakers, MLAs John Birmingham and Roger Spink met, via video link, with Laurent Corbaz from the International Committee of the Red Cross Laurent Corbaz and members of his team to discuss the progress made in HPP2 (Humanitarian Project Plan 2) work. Laurent, together with colleagues from the ICRC, visited the Falkland Islands in August 2021, with the aim of identifying human remains buried in grave C.1.10 in the Argentine Cemetery near Darwin.
Argentine forensic anthropologist Luis Fondebrider, at the service of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Thursday landed in Córdoba in a private flight from the Falkland Islands carrying genetic material to be used in determining the identity combatants buried in grave C.1.10 at Darwin s military cemetery.
