After a motorist shot and killed a St. Croix sheriff’s deputy Saturday night, law enforcement leaders reflected on her death.

Four officers have been killed in the state so far in 2023, making it the deadliest year for Wisconsin law enforcement in over two decades.

The law enforcement community across the state is in mourning Monday after a St. Croix County deputy was killed in the line of duty.

A funeral service for slain Deputy Kaitie Leising will follow a public visitation on Friday, May 12 at Hudson High School.

The Chetek and Cameron police departments are selling memorial bracelets with badge numbers 614 and 608 to fundraise for the officers’ families.

Jeremiah D. Johnson, was identified as the 34-year-old suspect accused of shooting and killing a St. Croix County Sheriff's Deputy, Kaitie Leising.

The cost of the bracelets are $5.00, according to a Facebook post.

Video from CBS Minnesota showed officers saluting and people filling overpasses on Interstate 94 as Leising's body was brought back to Wisconsin.

The fatal shooting of a St. Croix County Sheriff's Deputy has added to an already disquieting toll of Wisconsin officers killed in the line of duty this year.
