Area businesses receiving grants still wishing for more capacity, longer hours

Area businesses receiving grants still wishing for more capacity, longer hours MEDC announced small business grant recipients last week FacebookTwitterEmail The Port Hope Inn, one of 27 different Huron County small businesses that recently got small business survival grants from the MEDC. (Robert Creenan/Huron Daily Tribune) With another round of COVID-19 small business grants given out by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, some businesses, while grateful for the funds, are still resentful they cannot operate at full capacity. The Port Hope Hotel is one such business, receiving $15,000 in grant funding and retaining two jobs in the process. Leroy Pleiness, the owner of the restaurant, plans on using the money he received to pay for wages and utility bills, which is helpful for him since Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s curfew for restaurants is still in effect.
