reporter: we are in chatham which is part of the massachusetts that just out into the atlantic motion. officials are not forcing any residents to evacuate. they are urging those tho live in low lying fund-prone areas to get out. if winds exceed 70 miles an hour nobody will be able to get out, because the army corps of engineers will shut down the bridges to and from cape cod. that means nobody on and nobody off. really the clock is ticking for people to decide whether they are going to stay or leave. most of the very whethered cape coders are going to weather it out. megyn: they have many times. thank you. our latest game on, the first unofficial 2012 hillary clinton for president ad hit the air waves today. this one was put together by a dentist from chicago. that s right president obama s own hometown. this ad is running in new orleans and is expected to hit
the atlantic, at least. there is earl. this is tropical storm fiona that s going to effect bermuda in a couple of days. earlier today, shepard, watch in this was gas ton, the category 2 hurricane within the next five days. they have now dissipated this and at this point don t show it regenerating. a lot of models do see still this regenerate. even though officially we are not tracking that right now, i think we probably will again as we move forward over the next couple of days. let s get to earl. this is the most imminent one it has made that turn. that is great news. we do have hurricane advisories up. hurricane warnings where you see this red. and that s in effect from the border here virginia, north carolina, down towards go up here towards the north. i think we have a better chance of seeing significant weather here as far as probably stronger winds maybe around nantucket. as well as out across cape cod. that would be 24 hours from. now the thing is is the storm is going to be
pull close to the outer banks with the hurricane advisories hear and hurricane warnings in effect today and now that includes cape cod, the islands toward massachusetts, and back toward west port and blues arrested s buzzards bay. the cope pulls to the east of the cape here and that is good news but if it jogs west you could be on the when side of the wall and you see the winds in scpes of hurricane force causing problems. and we talk about storm surge and you have winds from the north filling in the bay. that the cause overwashing of the roads. on friday night we are getting very close to massachusetts and long island seeing winds at sector 65 miles per hour and the best chance for any if we see a landfall is around nantucket and gone by the weekend. that is great news.
it s not going to take much to cause problems along the east coast and we could take some lessons from folks across the southeast and florida and the gulf coast. i don t know if folks really know what to do if this hurricane makes a landfall across mid atlantic or the northeast. there s the storm right now. we re gonna see a little wobbling here, even though this is a very strong, massive storm, they re very delicate creatures and just a little wobble here or wobble there can, you know, weaken the storm a little bit. so we are going to see some fluctuations, possibility of going down to a category 3 but right now, we re at a 4, a very strong 105-mile-per-hour sustained winds moving north-northwest at 18 miles per hour. it s just 400 miles south of cape hatteras. they ll start to feel some of the outer bands this afternoon. hurricane advisories, watches and warnings. warnings in the red for parts of the outer banks and watches up towards delaware and then parts of massachusetts as well
it s still 125 miles per hour sustained winds. still a category 3 and it could actually go to a 4 within the next couple of hours. it has a lot of warm water to travel. you can see those cooler cloud tops. that s the sign it s strengthening again. hurricane advisories up for coastal virginia as well as north carolina. so hurricane watches in effect. we should start seeing hurricane conditions within the next 48 hours. there s the track. it has not changed much since i saw you last since yesterday. so anywhere from the coastal carolinas, again, from cape hatteras up towards coastal maine. you need to be paying attention to the track of this storm just a couple of hundred miles difference could make a lasting difference in your lives. so if you hear evacuations, make sure you heed the warnings and we could see watches and warnings on the east coast as well in the next several days. that s the path of cone of uncertainty as we go further in time, a little less confidence.
