Months after their recovery, at least one in 10 patients of COVID-19 had persistent symptoms most commonly a lingering cough and shortness of breath in a condition described as the long COVID,” a new study published on July 10 has found. Scientists of the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) conducted a survey on the recovered COVID-19 patients in Singapore and discovered that nearly 6 months after the infections, many patients were in for a long haul as they struggled with fatigue, dizziness, and insomnia, which, in some cases, were not so frequently observed. There were, however, signs of the elevated inflammatory markers irrespective of whether or not the patient fought a severe or a mild case of the C

About Lambert Strether
Readers, I have had a correspondent characterize my views as realistic cynical. Let me briefly explain them. I believe in universal programs that provide concrete material benefits, especially to the working class. Medicare for All is the prime example, but tuition-free college and a Post Office Bank also fall under this heading. So do a Jobs Guarantee and a Debt Jubilee. Clearly, neither liberal Democrats nor conservative Republicans can deliver on such programs, because the two are different flavors of neoliberalism (“Because markets”). I don’t much care about the “ism” that delivers the benefits, although whichever one does have to put common humanity first, as opposed to markets. Could be a second FDR saving capitalism, democratic socialism leashing and collaring it, or communism razing it. I don’t much care, as long as the benefits are delivered
Yves here. The lack of any serious, concerted action to combat Covid transmission in schools is another example of how America has become a “can’t do” society. Evidence is mounting that teachers and other school employees are correct in seeing health risk in continuing to show up at work:
Wonder why I talk about the role of children in the pandemic a lot? It’s because the message isn’t getting through.
In November, a prominent Canadian politician said, “children are not transmitters of COVID.”
That is wrong and frankly horrifying to hear.pic.twitter.com/bhoiWxWpzC
Confusing to you and me @c drosten! I can’t work out the denial about transmission in children. The only explanation is ideological. We expected children to transmit covid just like they do other viruses. The science provided no surprises. Yes, they do! so we need to act on it. pic.twitter.com/gzwTxonGDk

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) An epidemiologist in Australia says a comment made by the B.C. premier a month ago about COVID-19 and kids is “wrong” and “horrifying to hear.”
During a news conference on Nov. 18, while answering a question about what additional restrictions were being considered, John Horgan said, “children are not transmitters of COVID.”
“Adults working within the K to 12 system are bringing the virus into the classrooms and bring it into the schools and that’s led to outbreaks in pockets of British Columbia,” he added.
