to actually say what they think about what s happening in washington. he went on to say that cowardice, hyper partisanship is not only making us stupid. it s hurting democracy and crippling our ability to reason together as a country. those are important comments for people to listen to today. i want to bring up another subject. seth moulton from massachusetts, running for president. he s not number one in the polls. he s at the bottom of the pack. 1%. he did something historic yesterday which is acknowledge that he s been getting therapy for post traumatic stress. he served in the iraq war and said he had dreams among other things after and sought help. i don t know if we have a graphic of what he said. i can read some of it. i had particular experiences or regrets from the war i thought about every day. occasionally, i have had bad dreams or wake up in a cold sweat. because the experiences weren t debilitating i didn t feel
out saying this publicly? the fact that justin amash is being consistent with libertarian principles and that makes him a target speaks to how the party has drifted away from principles and toward hyper partisanship. the notes are extraordinary not only because he s the first republican to do it. he s pointing out two important things. one, hyper partisanship distorted the way the founders intended the system to work. he s saying most of his colleagues in congress haven t bothered to read the report. that s a huge condemnation of the way hyper partisanship makes us lazy and stupid. mitt romney took two days to read the report. he called the stance from amash courageous but didn t see the obstruction mueller laid out as impeachable. laura, every other republican as far as i can tell including the political apparatus of the trump organization and the republican
younger people. my guess is there will be a spark in their generations that will be much healthier than what we have now. they re not as hyper partisan. they don t drive this hyper partisanship that we re living in. your dad began in politics in the 60s. he was known for his civilit, bipartisan. the way he cherished democratic institutions and so on. he had an extraordinary one term. the end of the berlin wall falling. the dissolution of the soviet union. reunification of germany. and then the gulf war. in the midst of it he had to make a decision about taxes and about agreeing to a package that included tax increasing to try
counter top here at the coffee shop because the place is so packed, that s the only place he could address the crowd out here after making it official this morning. his priorities, as he s outlining very clearly, the economy, the bitter partisan divide, hyper partisanship. he puts a lot of emotion behind climate change. some will criticize the green new deal for being too bold or being unmanageable. i tell you what. i haven seen anything better that addresses the singular crisis that we face, the crisis that could, at its worse, lead to extinction. reporter: critics are already after him. club for growth action calls it beneficiary of white privilege. rnc chair says that he has nothing to run on. his greatest accomplishment is losing to ted cruz. the president this morning criticizing his hand gestures. dana: he is certainly gesturing a lot.
what we see with this decision i think is a deepening of the erosion of trust. we ve already experienced in the country broadly kind of an erosion of trust because donald trump lies daily. so the executive branch is looked upon with suspicion. there is an erosion of trust with regards to the legislative branch because of the hyper partisanship that defines it. even as the democrats have taken over. and now we have here the judicial branch. we thought that holding the line. and so here you have people all around the country wondering how is it possible that manafort could get 47 months with nine months served. it suggests in a something is cooked, that something is fundamentally wrong. and there is the question of the pardon that has been tossed about. rudy giuliani has insisted that it is not being considered at this time. but the president not ruling one in or out. this is what president trump
