North Korea successfully launched a ballistic missile tipped with a hypersonic weapon, raising tensions in the Pacific region.

Lawmakers have mandated the Pentagon field a defensive hypersonic interceptor several years earlier than current Defense Department estimates.

Pentagon leaders say 2024 will be a key year for the Army to bolster defenses around Guam, a critically strategic island in the Indo-Pacific region.

The US Defense Department plans to carry out joint hypersonic missile tests with the Australian military in 2024, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Heidi Shyu said.

The original Fattah missile allegedly has a range of roughly 870 miles and could "evade" U.S. and Israeli defense systems, Iranian media claimed during initial reports.

Without a major test of the Common Hypersonic Glide Body, the Army's plan to field its hypersonic weapon by the end of the year has slipped away.

The dud Kinzhal missile is a passable ballistic missile and nothing more. Russia is threatening Ukraine with the overwrought firework.

“We’re finding problems,” Assistant Secretary of the Army Doug Bush said. “It’s actually good we’re finding these.”

Navigation warnings issued for this week are similar to ones related to a scrubbed hypersonic test in March.

A secretive launch planned for this week from Florida’s Cape Canaveral could be a test of a hypersonic weapon as the U.S. tries to catch up with the speedy missiles of Russia and China.
