After a scintillating 2021 financial year, platinum group metal prices have softened from their peaks.

A search and rescue operation was under way at Impala Rustenburg after a mud rush at 6 Shaft on Monday. All operations at Impala Rustenburg's 6 Shaft and 16 Shaft complexes have been suspended until a full and comprehensive report is available.

The bodies of three missing mineworkers have been found, while two other employees have been rushed to hospital following an underground mud rush.

Two mineworkers have been rescued and the bodies of three have been recovered at Impala Rustenburg 6 Shaft, which suffered an underground mud-rush incident. Search and rescue operations continued around the clock following the incident took place on Sunday, November 28.

Impala Platinum (Implats) has offered to acquire the remaining shares in Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat), at ZAR150 ($9.3) per share.
