For the second straight year, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) postponed the implementation of its Government Internship Program (GIP).
The DSWD announced the cancellation of the program for this year to ensure the the safety and protection of the youth from the continuing threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“The decision to postpone the internship program was part of the DSWD’s continued adherence to the Inter-Agency Task Force Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine, particularly on setting of age restrictions for the public allowed to go out of their homes,” it said in a statement issued on Monday, March 8.

IGACOS is part of Davao del Norte province which is currently under General Community Quarantine until February 28. Under the IATF’s Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines, establishments in tourism industries are not allowed to operate.
However, in a phone interview, Information Officer Michael Anthony Homez said the local government received the reply of the IATF on February 19 allowing resorts to operate for tourism.
“We wrote the IATF in the second week of January to allow tourism to operate but it was denied. We wrote to them again and fortunately last week they replied,” he said.
With the country's new quarantine status imposed for the month of February, the government has ordered a strict enforcement of health measures and scaling up of local healthcare systems to help stem the spread of the coronavirus disease.
