According to foreign news on April 27, sources directly involved in pricing negotiations said that the aluminium premium paid by Japanese buyers in the April-June quarter was finalised at $125-130 per ton, an increase of 45-53% from the previous quarter. Premiums in other parts of Asia have risen.

From January to March 2023, the exports of polysiloxane (the primary form of silicone) totalled 36,400 mt, up 12.52% on the month, but down 21.72％ on the year. YTD exports through March stood at 100,200 mt, a year-on-year decrease of 22.02%. The exports to South Korea took a lion’s share in March with 7,100 mt, down 0.70% from the previous month.

According to customs data, China silicon metal exports in March 2023 were 48,000 mt, up 1% MoM but down 33% YoY. Exports totalled 147,200 mt from January to March, a decrease of 18% YoY.

Iron ore and concentrate imports totalled 100.23 million mt in March 2023, a year-on-year growth of 14.8%. YTD imports through March stood at 294.34 million mt, a year-on-year growth of 9.8%.

Foreign media reported on April 27 that Germany may restrict the export of chemicals used to make semiconductors to China. The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that discussions on the matter are still at an early stage, "but officials involved in the talks realize that this move may damage commercial relations with Beijing."
