ETSU hosting lecture on health disparities featuring national expert Dr Cara V James

East Tennessee State University is hosting an inaugural Health, Equity and Inclusion Lecture, featuring Dr. Cara V. James, president and CEO at Grantmakers In Health (GIH), an educational organization dedicated to helping foundations and corporate giving programs improve the health of all people. The lecture, titled “Understanding Health Disparities and What it Takes to Achieve Health Equity,” will be presented via Zoom on Tuesday, March 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. It is co-sponsored by the ETSU College of Public Health and the Office of Equity and Inclusion and is part of the College of Public Health’s Leading Voices in Public Health lecture series.

BYU psychology professor shares her experience as a minority and immigrant

The Daily Universe BYU psychology professor Niwako Yamawaki shared hers and others’ experiences as immigrants and minorities at the annual Hickman Diversity and Inclusion Lecture on Feb. 19. Yamawaki spoke as this year’s recipient of the Hickman Diversity, Collaboration and Inclusion Award. In addition to sharing experiences, she called the audience to be Christian and compassionate. Yamawaki clarified that this billboard from her native country Japan is welcoming visitors to a town pronounced “Usa” and is not to be confused with the United States of America. She shared her experiences as an immigrant to the United States in a Feb. 19 address titled “My Perspective as an Immigrant.” (Holly Cluff)
