Three men were arrested Thursday in connection with the murders of two young men on Santa Barbara s Eastside in early January, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Remember when we couldn’t wait for 2020 to end? Ah, the good old days, amirite?
Last week I told you that this week I’d be sharing some of Noozhawk’s exciting plans for 2021. Well, I need to postpone that till next week as we’re awaiting an update from our Newspack partners on our transition to the WordPress.com and Google News Initiative universe.
That timeline, which I expect will be completed in the first quarter, will determine the scheduling of several other projects we have in development.
In the meantime, thank you again to our Hawks Club members who made such a huge difference with their financial commitments to Noozhawk last year, and for already getting this year off to such a strong start.
Santa Barbara renames street offensive to Chumash tribal leaders

In response to pressure from Chumash tribal leaders, the city of Santa Barbara on Monday is renaming “Dead Indian” Street to “Earth Mother” Street.
Santa Barbara will no longer have a street named “Indio Muerto,” which is Spanish for dead Indian. The name Indio Muerto is being replaced with “Hutash,” a Chumash term for earth mother.
This spring, the Barbareno Chumash Tribal Council requested the name change. Though Santa Barbara has a well-established history of its original street names, the city council determined Indio Muerto was not an appropriate name and voted on Sept. 29 to rename the street Hutash.
