In February 2024, 443 infrastructure projects faced cost overruns exceeding Rs 4.92 lakh crore. A total of 764 projects were delayed, with reasons including land acquisition delays, COVID-19 lockdowns, and lack of infrastructure support.

Out of the 780 delayed projects, 194 have overall delays in the range of 1-12 months, 187 have been delayed for 13-24 months, 284 projects for 25-60 months, and 115 projects have been delayed for more than 60 months

Five infrastructure projects, including highways in Goa, Meghalaya, and Assam, a rail-over-rail bulb line in Bihar, and urban metro transit projects in Bengaluru and Delhi/NCR, have been recommended for approval under the PM GatiShakti initiative. The projects were assessed based on integrated planning principles and the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
