The Progress-Index
RICHMOND - Gov. Ralph S. Northam announced Thursday that Civica Inc. is investing $124.5 million to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing operation in Petersburg. The new 120,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility will create 186 new jobs for the city.
The facility will be build next to the AMPAC Fine Chemicals plant on Normandy Drive. The plant became part of a $354 million federal contract last year with Richmond-based Phlow Corporation to create an infrastructure for U.S.-based drug manufacturing, which was previously done mostly overseas.
State and city leaders forecasted that more pharma businesses would relocate to Normandy Drive, equating it to a Silicon Valley of drug manufacturing. Civica is the first company to plan an entirely new facility in the city.
