Roughly 10% of the 2023 budget released by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is allocated to 31 departments and funds that address homelessness and housing.

With a theme of “A New L.A.,” Mayor Karen Bass detailed her intentions to create a “stronger, healthier, happier and safer” metropolis in her first State of the City address on April 17.  The mayor’s vision was further illustrated by the funding priorities outlined in her first budget, which was issued on April 18.

Mayor Karen Bass unveiled her proposed city budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year with funding priorities focused on the city's homelessness crisis.

Democratic Mayor Karen Bass, who was elected in November after promising to take on the city’s out-of-control homeless crisis, announced Monday that she would recommend spending $1.3 billion.

“How do I say the state of the city is strong when 40,000 people are in tents?” L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said as she released her budget proposal.
