Inside The Knicks News Today

Failure: No playoffs. Disappointment: First-round exit. Good: Second-round exit. Great: Conference finals! The Knicks aren’t at the point of even considering the Finals, let alone a championship, which speaks to the fan base’s tolerance of incremental success after two decades of trash.

Which players have the best and worst skills across the Knicks' current roster?

I’m here to tell you the Knicks made the right choice by standing pat. There is a plan in place, and they are sticking to it. They are building internally. They are stockpiling assets for that one big star who makes them a legitimate championship contender.

From the sound of it, Julius Randle is in uncharted territory, at least in terms of his Knicks’ career.

Julius Randle is coming off a strong regular season and a shaky postseason. He underwent arthroscopic left ankle surgery shortly after the New York Knicks were eliminated in the playoffs by the Miami Heat. He is still as important as any Knick, even with Brunson’s ascension.

There has been talk of Carmelo Anthony entering what has become a pretty exclusive club, joining Walt Frazier, Dick Barnett, Dick McGuire, Earl Monroe, Willis Reed, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley, Patrick Ewing and former coach Red Holzman as Knicks to have their jerseys retired.

It’s hard to win without difference-makers on the wing, particularly in the Eastern Conference, which features the likes of Boston Celtics duo Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat and Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton of the Milwaukee Bucks.

There is still work to be done, unanswered questions before the Knicks are whole again, questions that may not be answered by the time preseason begins.

The Knicks could emerge as a Giannis Antetokounmpo suitor if the star’s relationship with the Bucks keeps decaying.

For next season’s slate, the New York Knicks have just eight games in which they will be more rested than the opponent, tied for the fifth-fewest in the NBA.
