Even as hopes of finding survivors from the nearly 250-metre Intake Adit tunnel at Tapovan in Uttarakhands Chamoli district faded, the rescue team pressed ahead with work on clearing the tunnel on Tuesday.
On February 7, a glacier broke in the Tapovan-Reni area of Chamoli district which led to massive flooding in Dhauliganga and Alaknanda rivers and caused damages.

New Delhi, Feb 15 : NTPC on Monday said it has fast tracked all modalities and procedures for distribution of compensation to the immediate families of those who lost their lives in the natural disaster that struck Tapovan project in Uttarakhand s Chamoli District on February 7, even as rescue operation continued in full swing with high-end machinery.
While NTPC is extending a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the immediate family of the contract labourers of the agency engaged in construction of the project, the Uttarakhand and Central governments have separately announced compensation package of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively. Further, compensation against PF and Employees Compensation Act covered under statutory provisions of the workers in the range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15

A week after the glacier burst in Uttarakhand triggered massive flash floods, officials recovered six more bodies from the Tapovan tunnel on Sunday, where rescue operations are still underway. In all, 51 bodies have been recovered so far. Of these, only 24 have been identified, the police said. Three bodies recovered while taking out muck by machines from the intake Adit tunnel at 04.45 and 05.30 AM at around 120 to 125 mtrs distance from start point, ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey told News 18. The two employees at National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Tapovan project have been identified as Amal Singh, resident Tehri and Anil from Dehradun.
