KATHMANDU, June 22: Himalayan glaciers providing critical water to nearly two billion people are melting faster than ever before due to climate change, exposing communities to unpredictable and costly disasters, scientists warned Tuesday.

The study revealed that global warming is driving “unprecedented and largely irreversible” changes to the glaciers, snow and permafrost of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region.

Climate and water experts say every person on the planet should be worried about the dizzying rate at which glaciers in the Himalayas are melting.
