The study reveals that between 2011 and 2020, the glaciers in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region vanished 65 percent faster than in the previous decade, primarily due to the impacts of climate change.

The Hindu Kush Himalaya region spans across Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan, encompassing iconic peaks like Everest and K2. The report indicates that at a global warming level of 1.5 degrees Celsius or 2 degrees Celsius above preindustrial temperatures, glaciers throughout the entire region could lose 30% to 50% of their volume by 2100.
