To help better assess individuals for Hikikomori, researchers developed the the Hikikomori Diagnostic Evaluation, or HiDE, a diagnostic tool to be a guide on collecting information on the growing pathology.</p>

Cranial modification is a form of body alteration where the head is pressed or bound to permanently deform the skull. The practice has been reported across various cultures throughout history. Researchers from Kyushu University and the University of Montana report that the Hirota peopleโwho lived on the southern Japanese island of Tanegashima between the 3rd to 7th century CEโalso conducted cranial modification, with indication that both males and females performed the practice.

Researchers from Kyushu University and Asahi Kasei Corporation have developed a new way to estimate the age of microplastics found in the upper oceans. The new method combines plastic oxidation analysis with UV exposure and ambient temperature. By applying their new method to microplastics found across the North Pacific Ocean, the team found that the age of microplastics in nearshore regions ranged from 0 to 5 years old, whereas microplastics from offshore regions ranged from 1 to 3 years old.
