Room for improvement on the Dell XPS 13 continues to dwindle. This sleek ultraportable laptop, a perennial PCMag Editors’ Choice award winner, now comes with an optional OLED touch screen for a reasonable $300 premium.
While the XPS 13 has long had the option for either a full HD (1,920 by 1,200 pixels) or 4K screen, competitors like the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 and Apple MacBook Pro come with slightly lower-resolution panels that still look gorgeous while conferring energy-saving and other benefits. Now, XPS 13 shoppers can reap the benefits.
The Microsoft and Apple screens have been around for a few years with few major upgrades, so the introduction of an OLED panel on the XPS 13 could leapfrog them. It’s a 13.4-inch screen with a 3,456-by-2,160-pixel resolution. Dell is calling this “3.5K.” The moniker is technically correct in that the new screen has about 3,500 horizontal pixels, but it’s not something many shoppers are likely to recognize.
