The new 11th-generation Intel Core S-Series desktop CPUs are coming out with a new, unusual architecture that cuts back on the maximum core count while bringing a boost in AI capabilities and instructions per clock that the chipmaker says makes them competitive with AMD’s latest Ryzen chips.
The chipmaker announced the launch of the new processors, code-named Rocket Lake-S, Tuesday, saying that they come with up to a 19 percent increase in instructions per clock (IPC), up to 50 percent better integrated graphics performance as well as new AI capabilities with Intel Deep Learning Boost and support for Vector Neural Network Instructions.

The past year or so hasn’t been great for Intel if you’re thinking of PC chips – its smaller rival AMD stole much of its thunder with more powerful Ryzen chips as the market leader struggled to find a response. Well, today, Intel has unveiled its new 11th-gen Core S-series desktop processors.
More well known by the codename Rocket Lake-S, the new chips are built on a processor architecture called Cypress Cove. This is big because it finally replaces the previous Skylake architecture that has been around for the past five years – dinosaur-age in the chip industry.

Intel has had made a string of announcements at its CES 2021 keynote. Earlier today, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2021 floor, Intel announced a total of over 50 processors for both desktops and laptop PCs, which the company claims will combine to introduce a total of over 500 PCs by various OEMs through 2021.
