Progressive Club to hold monthly meeting By PROGRESSIVE CLUB - | Feb 3, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED U.S. Rep. Van Demings The Progressive Club of the Islands will hold its virtual monthly meeting on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. The guest speaker will be U.S. Rep. Van Demings, D-Orlando, who serves the 10th Congressional District. She will speak on the current challenges in Florida and America and the necessary actions that need to be undertaken. Born in Jacksonville, Demings worked as a social worker, then joined the Orlando Police Department. Over a 27-year career, she served in many roles, including commander of the Airport Division during Sept. 11, commander of special operations, member of the Crisis Negotiation Team, commander of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team and executive vice president of the International Association of Airport and Seaport Police.

Speaker Pelosi names Rep Eric Swalwell among Trump impeachment managers

Eric Swalwell, whose connections to a Chinese spy were recently made public, has been named as one of nine impeachment managers announced to before the Senate in President Trump’s second impeachment trial. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the list Tuesday night. Congressman Swalwell serves on House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he chairs the Intelligence Modernization and Readiness Subcommittee, and on the Judiciary Committee, Pelosi’s office said in a statement. He is a former prosecutor and is the son and brother of law enforcement officers.  He is serving his fifth term in Congress.
