Reaction to the big tech results on Tuesday night was to sell Microsoft and Alphabet/ Google, even though both companies beat earnings estimates.

Microsoft delivered its best-ever quarterly revenue for its fifth quarter in a row amid AI wave. Microsoft outperformed Wall Street predictions for second-quarter revenue on Tuesday, driven by increased attraction to its new AI features.

Expectations matter, and in the case of Microsoft, it looks like they got a bit lofty. And that's ok if the company is doing well, which is the case here. 

But Microsoft shares were down 1% after-hours as investors absorbed news about rising costs to develop these AI features.

Microsoft stock is falling after the tech giant reports fiscal second-quarter earnings. Expectations were just so high.
