Prepare for this. a lot of states have not actually used or asked for money for election security, and congress hasnt been exactly eager to give the millions of dollars necessary for this. so it looks like were going to have a repeat, and already facebook is warning that, you know, they are worried about the interference issue. >> lets switch gears for a moment and talk about that somewhat combative press briefing that took place yesterday. sarah huckabee sanders refusing to answer if the presid...

In february they indicted 13 russia russians. this is a guy close to putin. robert mueller straight up indict that guy in february. those indictments by mueller in february ended up becoming the basis for the first significant u.s. government sanction against russia for the interference issue. it happened a few weeks ago. mueller was the one that picked the targets, named them and literally brought federal criminal charges against them then the trump administration just held on to that and said ...

And nobody has found any collusion. there is no collusion. you know why? because i dont speak to russians. >> well, let me bring in tonights panel. josh earnest, white house press secretary for president obama. and anne gearan and lanhee chen, former policy visoc adviser, st. miss gearan, i want to start with you. i want to ask you the same question i asked kristen welker. the reaction from the trump white house was focusing on the collusion issue, not on the interference issue. >> yeah. >> do t...

Point on this issue with vladimir putin. vladimir putin probably issued that statement because that two-hour meeting did not go, i think, in the direction that he wanted it to go. there was a commitment to deescalation in southwest iraq -- syria by both sides. the u.s. made its point known through president trump about north korea. so i dont think that the president has to let vladimir putin have the first mover advantage by responding directly to him on the interference issue. it is an importan...

Welcome back. there are few people who are better positioned to know what options the united states has at its disposal to retaliate against the russians for the election interference than my next guest. ash carter has been president obamas secretary of defense for the past two years, and hes watched as weve moved from a hoped-for russian reset to russian aggression in ukraine, crimea, syria and now, of course, the 2016 interference issue. secretary carter joins me now. welcome to "meet the pres...

I think its clear that we can be videotaped. i dont think thats without question. i think what i want to make sure is that the public understands that they cant interfere with whatever police action is being taken. as long as the videotape doesnt become evidence, they have a right to use it and have it and they have a right to do with whatever they want to do with it at that time. officers, we just need to be clear on when and where those different factors fall into play. >> right. and david har...

The first amendment, how much of it is willful misconduct on their part this >> i think what happens is you have officers in the middle of whatever theyre doing and they get caught up in the moment and they react to it. i think its clear that we can be videotaped. i dont think thats without question. i think what i want to make sure is that the public understands that they cant interfere with whatever police action is being taken. as long as the videotape doesnt become evidence they have a right...

The filter -- when we fixed the filtering issue when this order was given. keep in mind we have taken the step to fix any interference issue that the gps or any of the agencies have come forward with and have been concerned with. these fixes are technology issues. its not a physics issue. megyn: general shelton said it will cost billions to protect the military gps system if you guys go on line are you going to pay for that? >> i think thats misinformation. we have allocated $50 million to the v...
