Devonport City Council honoured its Australia Day Award winners and new citizens at a ceremony held at the paranaple convention centre today.
Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff presented the following awards: Community Event of the Year: International Café, Young Citizen of the Year: Oliver Bailey, Citizen of the Year Award: Bruce and Alida Beattie and “Spirit of the City” Award: Dr Thomas Sayers.
Mayor Rockliff also welcomed 11 new citizens to Devonport, who have come from the Philippines, China, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Chile, and Taiwan.
Cr Rockliff said Council was pleased to present an additional award this year, the “Spirit of the City”, which was introduced some years ago to recognise the outstanding achievement by dedicated and deserving non-residents, who have made a significant contribution to the promotion and advancement of Devonport.
