The Papua New Guinea Hunters rugby league team believe the bye has come at the right time as they look to rest some sore bodies this weekend. The Hunters remain inside the Intrust Super Cup top four, despite falling short away to Burleigh Bears last weekend. The PNG Hunters are in the Intrust Super Cup top four. Kevin Walters expects spark and voice from his new halves to ignite Brisbane as the Broncos coach reverted to his Origin mind trick of refusing to speak about the opposition before Friday’s derby clash with the Gold Coast. Walters raised eyebrows in 2019 when as Queensland Origin coach he followed advice from self-proclaimed “coach whisperer” Bradley Charles Stubbs and banned Maroons players from talking about NSW. The Maroons constantly referred to the Blues as the opposition as Walters ...

Michael Nunn THE Ipswich Jets conquered their first win of the season in fine style against the CQ Capras. The Jets held the ball for huge amounts of time and the Capras chased the Jets all over the field trying to stop the momentum. Ipswich had the ball for 31 minutes compared to the Capras 16. The Jets completed their sets and Josh Cleelands kicking game was a thing of beauty as he turned the Capras around and got the Jets five repeat sets. The Jets made a staggering 2066 metres of groun...

Broncos coach Kevin Walters will use his fourth halves combination in eight weeks as Brisbane’s search for a long-term playmaking answer takes another twist with the recall of maligned marquee man Anthony Milford. Milford is set to be named to face the Titans on Friday after two weeks in the Intrust Super Cup. He will partner Tyson Gamble in the halves after Walters axed Brodie Croft and Tom Dearden. Deardens axing comes just 24 hours after he confirmed he was leaving Brisbane to join the Cow...

By Peter Psaltis9 hours ago FShareTTweetQSMSWWhatsAppBEmailGJTumblrLLinkedIn9 hours ago Not many will like what Im about to suggest. One option for Walters is to bring back Anthony Milford and tell him hes on his last chance in the NRL. You never know how the off contract playmaker will respond. Another option is to get Albert Kelly into the team. Kelly has been playing good football for Souths Logan in the Intrust Super Cup and is getting better with every game he plays. In fact, why not throw...

Gold Coast players were bracing for a defensive wake-up call from assistant coach Jim Dymock this week as the Titans look to recover from a troubling fortnight where they’ve conceded 76 points in back-to-back defeats. The Titans threw away a golden opportunity to upset South Sydney when they surrendered a 24-10 half-time lead in the 40-30 loss last Friday, the 30-6 second half mauling coming after the hapless 36-0 loss to Manly just a week earlier. Tyrone Peachey said defensive coach Dymock w...

Brisbane now shape as the keystone club in the NRLs rapidly shifting $5 million playmaking merry-go-round, with Adam Reynolds looming largest on their radar after Tom Deardens move to the Cowboys. The decision by Dearden – rightly or wrongly so often mentioned in the same breath as Broncos icon Allan Langer at a similar age – to return to his old North Queensland stomping ground on a three-year-deal in 2022 leaves Kevin Walterss scrumbase intentions clear as day. Staring down the worst ope...

Premium Content Subscriber only The CQ Capras under-18s can “hold their heads high” after their Mal Meninga Cup campaign, according to coach Kane Hardy. Their stellar run came to an end in Saturday’s semi-final against the Townsville Blackhawks in Brisbane. The Capras were edged 28-24 after coming back from 12-nil down and leading by six points midway through the second half of the seesawing contest. Hardy said the loss was “heartbreaking” but praised his talented outf...

TWO SYDNEY CLUBS CIRCLE UNWANTED BRONCOS STAR After a disappointing start to his 2021 season that saw him dropped after Round 5, it appears Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford wont be at the club in 2022. The Courier Mail reported the Broncos are unlikely to offer Milford a new deal, with two Sydney clubs interested in the former Origin player. Its understood rival NRL clubs see the 26-year-old as a fullback, which is where he began his career with great success for the Raiders scoring 21 tri...
