With stubble burning season back leading to deteriorating air quality across North India, close to a dozen large companies are stepping in to mitigate the impact on air pollution and manufacturing. HDFC, PepsiCo, Fidelity International, Royal Enfield, SBI Cards, Cummnis, Birlasoft and IOC are among the others either setting up equipment or funding to mitigate the impact of the stubble burning.

According to officials, the Sri Lankan government has extended for an additional 20 years the petroleum products licence that Lanka IOC, the Indian Oil Corporation subsidiary operating locally, was granted. The first 2003 permit was set to expire in January 2024. The government has extended the petroleum products licence given to Lanka IOC, the Indian Oil Corporation local subsidiary, for an additional 20 years, the officials said.

The project cost of Dhamra LNG terminal is Rs 6,450 crore, the sources said responding to Moitras assertion that the terminal to import natural gas in its liquid form, called LNG, was built at a much higher cost than Rs 5,000 crore that IOC incurred in construction of a similar sized facility at Ennore in Tamil Nadu.

State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have been fined by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for not installing pollution control devices at their petrol pumps. IOC has been fined Rs 1 crore and BPCL Rs 2 crore for not installing Vapour Recovery Systems (VRS) at petrol refuelling stations within the timeline prescribed by the Supreme Court.
