The senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Adelere Oriolowo, was whisked away from the venue of a constituency meeting in Ikire, Osun State, on Sunday, after some gunmen attacked him.
Oriolowo posted on his Facebook page that his assailants attempted to kill him.
He wrote, “Just escaped an assassination attempt on my life and that of my entourage. To God be the glory, we are safe and alive.
“God is my helper, my shelter and my fortress, I fear no evil.”
The senator’s senior legislative aide, Adams Adedimeji, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said Oriolowo was the main target of the hoodlums.

The Senator’s Senior Legislative Aide, Adams Adedimeji, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said Oriolowo was the main target of the assassins.
He said the Senator had gone for a constituency meeting at Ikire town in the Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, which is under his constituency.
Oriolowo had posted on his Facebook page that his assailants attempted to assassinate him.

A 29-year-old popular Baker in Ikire, Osun State, Kehinde Akinlabi, woke up Monday morning of October 26, 2020 to continue his normal engagement of the day. This father of three could not return to his family after a stray bullet hit him from the back inside Asupoto compound where he ran to, for safety.
He died 20 minutes after, at St. Jude hospital, Ikire where it was confirmed that bullets from the Nigerian Army had hit him very close to the heart, as his family and staff endlessly waited for his return.

Over 1,000 people drawn from agrarian communities in Ikire, Osun State, recently benefitted from the free medical and healthcare outreach organised by Ibrahim Oyekunle Foundation.
Founder of the foundation, Mr Ibrahim Oyekunle, in an interview with newsmen said the foundation was established to give back to the society.
“The foundation is barely a year old and we, the team, have a work plan which is going to touch healthcare of our people, education intervention scheme that will include the indigent students, empowerment of farmers by assisting them with seedlings and ways to improve their outputs, and also assisting artisans who are financially incapacitated,” he said.

A human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, has demanded a coroner’s inquest into the death of some persons in Ikire town, Osun State, on October 26, 2020, during a protest.
Some people were reportedly shot dead by soldiers in the town when protesters stormed the Akire palace to demand the enforcement of a Supreme Court verdict that removed Oba Olatunde Falabi.
Falana, in a letter signed on his behalf by Taiwo Olawanle, titled, ‘Request for coroner’s inquest into the brutal killing of six persons in Ikire by armed soldiers on Monday, October 26, 2020,’ said he was compelled to request an inquest in view of the circumstances surrounding the killings.
