Hamas claimed responsibility for attacking the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, where Israel said three soldiers were killed. Israel closed the crossing to aid trucks but kept others open. Hamas said it targeted an Israeli army base, not the commercial crossing. Israel retaliated with airstrikes, killing three and later nine Palestinians, including a baby.
