Ohio Republican Governor Mike DeWine said this week that he will seek changes to Issue 2, the state’s recreational marijuana initiative that voters passed on Tuesday.

Since Issue 2 is a citizen initiative, Ohio lawmakers will ultimately have the final say on the law and Ohio Republican lawmakers have already talked about making changes.

Ohio became the latest state to legalize recreational marijuana on Tuesday with the approval of Issue 2, a ballot initiative that legalizes cannabis for adults 21 and up.

Ohioans voted on Tuesday to make their state the 24th to legalize recreational marijuana by voting yes on Issue 2.

Ohio Issue 2 legalizes the purchase, possession, and cultivation of marijuana by adults 21 and over. It also creates a tax and regulatory framework for commercial cultivation and retail marijuana sales.

Ohioans are weighing-in on whether they will become the twenty-fourth state in the union to legalize recreational marijuana. Although Ohio's abortion rights amendment has captured the most national media attention, Issue 2 on the Buckeye state's ballot this year would allow individuals over age 21 to posses up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and up to 15 grams of marijuana concentrates. Issue 2, an initiative that would legalize recreational marijuana for people over 21 in Ohio, is on the ballot in next Tuesday’s election.

The ballot’s language makes it clear it does not require an employer to “accommodate an employee’s use, possession, or distribution of adult use cannabis.”

Small hemp purveyors, like Cincinnati company It's Not Weed, hope to compete with big businesses if Issue 2 passes.
