Abortion opponents and supporters share a common interest and target this summer: winning Ohio.

If State Issue One passes in two weeks, it would take 60% to amend the state constitution, which is what abortion rights advocates want to do.

Easy access, fixed rate, regular and ISA accounts are paying some of the highest interest rates seen in decades.

This year’s outcome in the Buckeye State could be a bellwether for similar battles elsewhere in 2024.

A "yes" vote will protect Ohio’s constitution by requiring a higher threshold – a 60-percent majority – to pass any future amendment to our constitution. This 60-percent threshold is well below the federal requirements that make changes to the U.S. Constitution.  

Ohioans will make a significant decision 19 days from now about whether future amendments will require 60% voter approval or the current 50%.

With more than a year before the next major election cycle begins, the behind-the-scenes work of election security is just getting started.

The signs of life about state Issue One are starting to sprout in more places three weeks before the special election on Aug. 8.

If it is passed, Issue One would require 60% of voters to approve any change to the state's constitution, up from the 50% majority to add an amendment currently.

Voting rights advocates are raising concerns about Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose's involvement in the August 8 ballot issue he is supporting ahead of the election he is overseeing.
