Texas lawmakers said they plan to ask the Department of Justice to look into reports that Texas troopers and National Guard members have been ordered to push migrant children back into the Rio Grande and deny asylum-seekers water even in extreme heat.

Alfredo Ochoa-Munoz, 37, of Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, was sentenced to 120 months years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to take a hostage and three counts of hostage taking on Jan. 10, 2023.

About 17,000 migrants are waiting in Northern Baja California for an opportunity to cross the border, according to Mexico's National Institute of Migration.

More than two dozen migrants who entered the United States and were diagnosed with tuberculosis before being returned to Mexico and other countries last year remain unaccounted for.

Fifty-five migrants have lost their lives since Oct. 1 in El Paso and Southern New Mexico, including some who got lost in the desert and perished of heat-related illnesses.
