An SBI Research Report based on income tax returns filed for FY11 to FY22 shows positive trends, such as rise in average income of the middle class and significant decline in the number of returns with zero tax liability.

ITR tax filing last date: The Income Tax Department has urged taxpayers to file their returns at the earliest to avoid last-minute rush and late penalties.

ITR filing: Those who wish to send the ITR-V in a hard copy can send it through the usual address through speed post only to Centralised Processing Centre, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru-560500, Karnataka.

ITR filing deadline: Taking the 63.47 lakh returns filed on the last day, the total number of ITRs for the 2021-22 fiscal filed till 10 pm went past 5.73 crore.

Income Tax return filing deadline: The department issued a public message through its official Twitter handle asking taxpayers, largely individuals and salaried class, to file their returns within the due date of July 31.

More than 4.87 crore income tax returns have been filed till late evening, the department said on Saturday, a day before the ITR filing deadline for the financial year 2021-22 ends.

Income Tax Returns: According to the official portal, only 40 per cent returns have been filled till, July 27. As people try to file their returns, they have pointed out glitches in the official portal.

The centre has made it clear that there is no plan to extend the ITR filing due date, while there is widespread request for an extention to the deadline.

ITR Filing: The deadline to file income tax returns is March 31, 2022. Taxpayers will no longer be able to file ITRs voluntarily after this date. Check out what will happen if they don't meet the deadline.

Income taxpayers must remember that this ITR is for auditable cases for AY 2021-22. "The clock is ticking, the due date to file your ITR for auditable cases for AY 2021-22 is very close!" Income Tax department stated.
