Margaret Jayne Huntley Main was enchanted with the Rose Parade from an early age. Her reign as the 1940 Rose Queen opened up into a rich and robust life of teaching, performing and creating. But she remained close to the parade to her final years.

Margaret Huntley Main held the title in 1940, and met every Rose Queen from 1905 to 2020. The San Jose State grad later went on to teach kindergarten in Orangevale.

Margaret Huntley Main, the 1940 Tournament of Roses queen and the oldest living titleholder, has died. Main died last Friday in Auburn, California, the Tournament of Roses said in a statement Tuesday. The grand marshals in 1940 were ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his dummy, Charlie McCarthy.
