Several Northeast Arkansas school districts continue to report positive COVID-19 cases among their students and faculty.

Norfork came away with one win Wednesday hosting Izard County for three basketball games in the Bobby D. Hulse Gymnasium. The Lady Panthers had the lone victory in the senior girls’ game. Norfork defeated the Lady Cougars 44-28. Norfork did not fare as well in the senior boys’ contest, as they fell to Izard County 64-24. Friday’s local basketball results include the Arkansas Sports Media’s top-ranked girls’ team in Class 1A suffering its first conference loss. Viola ended up falling to Rural Special 53-50. There has been a slight increase in the number of known COVID-19 infections per 10,000 school district residents in the past two weeks, with 179 districts in the state that are a part of a so-called “Red Zone”, a state health group said Thursday.

A dispute allegedly over a Christmas bonus has led to the arrest of an Izard County man.
