house democrat upset about the filibuster, she would like to move more. she can only do so much and she's tired of holding off one side to keep everybody on the same, pulling in the same direction. >> helene cooper, the kamala harris, biden stuff, there's a part of it that i read and like, i could have transposed the words obama and biden and biden as harris and obama aides used to look down upon, some of this feels normal. >> every vice president, i mean we're talking about this earlier. every vice president feels as if they're given only the hard stuff. they don't have enough to do. they're not put forward enough by the principal. the kamala harris stuff, i mean, listening just now to your interview with j mart and with alex struck me as also, the idea of her coming out and saying, people should stand up, being upset people are not standing up when she enters the room. that sounds like, in a sad way,
crazier members of the republican house caucus. that's saying quite a lot. so the question is does all of this add up to donald trump and some of the craziest members of the house gop caucus supporting somebody else after republicans take -- retake control of the house? >> i don't think so yet, joe. part of it is you have to beat somebody with somebody, and if mccarthy is able to lead how republicans to victory, if they pick up, you know, 20 or 30 or some big number of seats, i think he will probably get the credit from his caucus for the win. when i read this story, i see the different ways that these two leaders feel like they still need or don't need donald trump. look, if i see j. mart hanging around mitch mcconnell's office, i know i'm about to be scooped. in this case he goes further than we've been able to go with how frustrated and angry mcconnell was with trump.
sort of behind trump no matter what mentality is the pervading view in the republican party right now. j. mart, you have some reporting out today about how people like mitch mcconnell are leading this effort to put up some kind of opposition to this blind following of the former president. >> yeah, i have a story today that is right there on the screen at the "times" about this effort loosely led by mcconnell but with other people including actually george w. bush who has sort of been deputized coming out of retirement to try to recruit a handful of senate candidates like doug doozy in arizona and in new hampshire the governor sanu who took a pass already. there is a feeling in the pre-trump gop that this battle against trumpism is not just going to be fought in '24 but it also has to be fought in the midterms. if the kind of people winning
