Town go into this afternoon’s Sir Bobby Robson Day fixture against Newcastle United still looking to record back-to-back victories for the first time this season. The Blues got their Easter games off to a winning start and all but sealed their Championship status by defeating Burton Albion 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium on Friday.

Goals from Freddie Sears, David McGoldrick and Emyr Huws saw the Blues to a famous 3-1 home victory over promotion-chasing Newcastle United. Sears put Town in front in the 42nd minute, former Blues striker Daryl Murphy netted an equaliser for the visitors in the 62nd minute, but McGoldrick made it 2-1 seven minutes later and Huws sealed the three points - and Towns first back-to-back wins of the season - in injury time.

Freddie Sears’s fourth goal in four games has given the Blues a deserved 1-0 half-time lead over Newcastle United at Portman Road.

Striker Daryl Murphy is convinced that Town teenager Teddy Bishop has the potential to go all the way and emulate two of his former Sunderland team-mates by breaking into the England set-up.

Town boss Roy Keane will be looking for his side to secure their Championship status during an Easter period in which they face Reading at home and then Derby County away. The Blues manager expects two very tricky matches as his 16th-placed side seek to finally drag themselves away from the relegation fight.

Boss Paul Jewell looks likely to make a number of changes to his side for Scunthorpe’s visit to Portman Road on Saturday but says his options are limited until he can bring in his own players in the summer. TWTD understands that Arran Lee-Barrett is set to come into the side in goal, while academy youngster Josh Carson will also be in the squad.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he would talk to Town about Daryl Murphy and David Healy joining the Blues permanently in the summer. The duo are currently on loan at Portman Road until the end of the season.

Boss Roy Keane says two unnamed members of his squad are injury doubts ahead of Saturday’s home game with Scunthorpe. The Blues are already without midfielder Grant Leadbitter, who is serving the final match of a two-game ban.
