Four Indicted On Corruption Charges, Including Councilman

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha city councilman, two former Omaha police officers and a fourth man have been indicted in a federal investigation into the misuse of funds from a youth sports program and a Latino officers' group.

The U.S. Attorney's Office released two related indictments on Friday for the four men: Vincent Palermo, Johnny Palermo, Richard Gonzalez and Jack Olson.

One indictment, which includes more than 15 counts of wire fraud and other charges, details the case, which is an alleged scheme of more than seven years — involving misused donation money flooded into personal funds.

Reactions from Omaha city officials ranged from “not shocked” to concern over the fallout of federal indictments resulting in the arrest of four people, including the vice president of the Omaha City Council.

"The actions of this group have taken away from the great work done by our members who have been longtime coaches and volunteers for both PACE and the old LPOA," chapter president Queño Martinez said.

The vice president of the Omaha City Council, two retired city police officers, and a man hired to raise funds for a nonprofit supporting Latino peace officers were arrested Friday to face 41 charges relating to misuse of funds for that organization.
