Matthew White hurled racial abuse and said he had killed before when challenged over shoplifting at a Lidl, it has been reported

The Met Police in June named Matthew White (pictured), who died aged 50 in 2021, as the sixth suspect in the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence in April 1993.

After considering a file on the case for over two and a half years, the CPS has ruled there is insufficient evidence to charge any of the four retired officers with misconduct in public office.

Sir Mark Rowley said some errors made by investigators were so egregious that they would be impossible to repair, despite detectives moving heaven and earth in recent years.

Duwayne Brooks, Stephens friend who survived the attack, said he could have identified Matthew White (pictured) - who was named as a suspect last week - had police put him in a line-up.

Matthew Matty White, who died aged 50 of a drugs overdose in 2021, also attacked a black shopkeeper yards from where the aspiring architect died in Eltham.

A relative has claimed that the newly-named sixth suspect in the Stephen Lawrence murder case had tried to meet the police decades ago to shed more light on the teens murder - but the officer didnt turn up.

The BBC revealed that leads connected to Matthew White were not properly followed up by police until 20 years after the teenager’s racist murder.
