Chloe Thompson is a SAIL High School student interning with WFSU as part of the Age of Nature project. She spent a semester getting to know Lake Elberta, and helped organize a cleanup there in March of 2021. Chloe closes out her internship with a look at fixing Lake Elberta’s garbage issue- in the long term.
In February of 2021, I had visited Lake Elberta for the very first time. Before then, to be honest, I probably had driven by it countless times, but never seemed to notice it until intentionally looking for it. The park was a truly beautiful place, filled with all sorts of wildlife and lively with visitors.
City leaders invite southside community to give feedback on Southside Action Plan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â City leaders say growing Tallahassee s southside is a priority. City commissioner Dianne Williams- Cox says the Southside Action Plan now is how they ll fast-track that growth. The Southside Action Plan is set out to put into action plans that were put into place many years ago. We re now breathing energy into it, she said.
Commissioners approved the plan on March 24, adding it to the decades-old Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan. The first phase of the project is focused on public input. Commissioners plan to gather that public input until this fall.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Waccamaw River and Intracoastal Waterway continue to rise this morning after multiple days of rain.
WACCAMAW RIVER AT CONWAY - The Flood Warning continues for the Waccamaw River at Conway. At 5 AM, the stage was 14.76 feet. Flood stage is 11.0 feet. The river is forecast to crest near 14.8 feet on Saturday. At 14 feet, flood waters affect several residential properties and roads at Riverfront South, Lees Landing, Savannah Bluff, Pitch Landing, Jackson Bluff and Bucksville. At 15 feet, residential flooding would continue to worsen and the Conway Marina would flood. Railroad trestles in downtown Conway flood at 15.9 feet. Major flooding should continue through this entire week. We will keep an eye to see when we get a drop in river levels.
