Sgt McLauchlan wraps up 34 years in law enforcement

McLauchlan, 55, was given a hero’s send-off by his colleagues, who hosted a cookout for him and his wife, Janine, and their daughter, Angela, before honoring him with a farewell retirement radio send-off. Chief Chris Mattei, who ran the grill for the pre-retirement departure, had nothing but praise for McLauchlan. “We’re a fairly small agency — one of the largest agencies north of Concord but smaller at 35 employees,” he said. “So whenever you have an employee that leaves the department, somebody who retires after 20 years of service, it has a profound impact on us here at the police department.” He added: “He’ll be missed. He’s a phenomenal guy, great family man, has been a great member of the community and a great member of our department — we’re gonna miss him.”

Health campers test surgery skills at Memorial

CONWAY — “This could be the start of a career, you never know,” said RN Marta Ramsey, clinical educator for Memorial Hospital in North Conway as she and Nurse Practitioner Charisse Hirschfeld guided six teenagers as they sutured supermarket chicken thighs on their own operating table outside the hospital s emergency room. It was all part of the five-day Mount Washington Valley School to Career Partnership’s Health Camp, which wrapped up last Friday. The School to Career Partnership is a day camp program for students heading into grades 7-9. Seven different camps are offered during July, and they are free this summer due to ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding for the Conway School District because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
