Malik stars as Jaffna Stallions become LPL champions Sports December 17, 2020 HAMBANTOTA: Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik excelled with both bat and ball to help Jaffna Stallions become the first champions of Lanka Premier League (LPL) as they defeated Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in the final here on Wednesday. Batting first, the Stallions posted 188-6, thanks to an even batting effort. Their top scorer was Pakistani veteran Malik, who scored 46 off 35 while batting at number four. The other major contributors were Thisara Perera (39 not out) and Dhananjaya de Silva (33). Galle’s bowling unit, apart from Dhananjaya Lakshan who got 3-36, struggled to contain Stallions batters.

Dec 16, Colombo: Jaffna Stallions clinched the trophy with a 53-run victory over Galle Gladiators in the final of the inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL) Cricket Tournament held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Sooriyaweva today. Batting first, Jaffna Stallions scored 188 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Shoaib Malik scored 46 off 35 balls and skipper Thisara Perera scored 36 not out. In reply, Gladiators were able to score only 135 runs for the loss of 9 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa taking to twitter congratulated the Jaffna Stallions on their win at the LPL and also congratulated all individuals and organizations that contributed to ensure the inaugural tournament was a success amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

A healthcare worker in Alaska has had a severe allergic reaction to Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine, but healthcare experts say that the vaccine is still safe for the general public.  The health-care worker in Juneau, Alaska, with no history of allergies experienced flushing and shortness of breath 10 minutes after receiving a shot, the state health department said in a statement Wednesday according to foreign media reports. The adverse reaction in the person, minutes after taking the Pfizer shot on Tuesday, was similar to two cases reported last week in Britain. However, the Alaskan patient did not have a history of allergic reactions, Lindy Jones, the director of the emergency department in the capital Juneau where the patient was treated, told reporters at a virtual briefing.

Releasing a statement, the US Embassy stated that the agreement was discontinued due to the lack of engagement of the partner country. The full statement issued is as below. COLOMBO, December 17, 2020: On December 15, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) board decided to discontinue the proposed Rs. 89 billion MCC development assistance grant to Sri Lanka due to lack of partner country engagement. The Rs. 89 billion approved for Sri Lanka will be made available to other eligible partner countries in need of grant funding to pursue their economic development priorities, reduce poverty, and grow their economies.
