LINCOLN, Neb. — On Saturday at Nebraska, Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh was fired up in a way we haven’t seen since 2016. At the outset of the second half, when the Huskers scored their first touchdown of the game, immediately after, Harbaugh was on the sidelines, yelling at the referees. That used to […]

David Zalubowski/AP Photos Bears coach Matt Nagy made a point to compliment his players on being in great shape when the Bears conducted weigh-ins and the pre-training camp conditioning test Tuesday and Wednesday. “Our guys put in a lot of work her win the summer and you never know how that’s going to be when they come back,” Nagy said. “But they came back in really great shape — and they did awesome in the conditioning test.” That was the good news. The bad news was a first-day...

Amr Alfiky/AP Photos Eddie Goldman was a surprising no-show at Bears mini-camp Tuesday. Coach Matt Nagy called it an unexcused absence but said he expects Goldman to return for training camp in July. Goldman, a Pro Bowl alternate in 2019, opted out of the 2020 season because of concerns about the coronavirus. General manager Ryan Pace, Nagy and first-year defensive coordinator Sean Desai all indicated they expected Goldman to be on board for the 2021 season. So Nagy was disappointed that he...

11/12/2016 – Michigan 13, Iowa 14 – 9-1, 6-1 Big Ten [Eric Upchurch] The punt landed on the four and took an abrupt right turn, as if God himself had decided to intervene with a brief misapplication of the rules of physics. In my experience punts do not do this. Usually they continue forward on their merry way. Sometimes they'll catch the turf in a particular way and bounce backwards, which still would have been great for Iowa but not quite as great as what happened. Which was, again, a...

DENVER — Hes subtle, this George Paton. Thrice Thursday the new Broncos general manager name-dropped sports agents — Bill Johnson (who represents JaWuan James), Jason Chayut (Kareem Jackson) and Ryan Williams (Shelby Harris). As one (unnamed) agent told me after: “Can’t hurt ... we read everything.” He’s a workaholic, this George Paton. The Broncos website shadowed Paton on his morning commute to UCHealth Training Center. Paton, an early riser, clocked in to the job at 4:50 a.m. “...
