PETALING JAYA: Sarawak recorded the highest new daily Covid-19 cases with 555 as the country registered 1,854 new infections.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the cases in Sarawak, 417 were detected from existing clusters and close contact screenings.
“The increased cases in Sarawak is due to a rise in the number of clusters, including those in longhouses.
“The factors that contribute to the increase in cases are social and mass gatherings such as funerals, weddings and others, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
The country recorded seven new clusters of which four were linked to the workplace while the remaining three were from the community.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 Malaysia reported a spike in Covid-19 cases today, registering 1,854 new infections, Health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah announced.
Sarawak recorded the most number of cases at 555, followed by Selangor with 403 cases, Penang with 176 cases, Sabah with 139 cases, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 135 cases and Johor with 103 cases.
Five deaths were also recorded today, with three of the deaths reported in Sarawak, and one each in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur
