JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The “pathway to success” has been established as the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) approved funding the next steps for the Buffalo City Park in Jamestown.
At a special Board of Directors Meeting Friday, the board met in executive session before moving to approve a request for $600,000 on an 80/21 city/county split to proceed with the next part of the project.
“The North Dakota state legislature has moved forward with a proposed appropriation of a $5 Million state grant,” CEO Connie Ova states in a letter to the board. “This initiative, championed by Senator [Terry] Wanzek and Representative [Craig] Headland, is being provided via SB 2018, ND Department of Commerce including North Dakota Tourism, budget 2021-2023.”

BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Governor Burgum signed into law today a bill brought forward this session that encourages investment of Legacy Fund dollars directly into the state.
The bill, which is part of a group of Legacy Fund bills, designates 20% of the Legacy Fund principal (roughly $1.4B) for investment in North Dakota. The goal is to change the current investment strategy to better align with what the people of North Dakota expect: principal preservation while maximizing total return and providing direct benefit to the state.
Currently, the State Investment Board oversees the investment of the Legacy Fund and uses fund managers to invest these dollars at the direction of the Legacy and Budget Stabilization Advisory Board (LBSAB). The existing Legacy Fund investment allocations include 50% going to equity investments (30% domestic and 20% international), 35% to fixed income investments, and 15% to real assets. The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation is launching a new internship program that is designed to increase the number of local internships and assist employers in workforce recruitment and retention. The program will contribute up to $3,500 to reimburse employers that are hiring university/college students to assist in the payroll costs. The program will be open to employers in Stutsman County.

The employer may be eligible for up to $3500 in reimbursement.
Employers may be eligible for half the payroll cost to be reimbursed. For example, if the projected cost for the employer is $8,000, the employer would be eligible for up to $3,500. If the projected cost for the employer is $4,000, the employer would be eligible for $2,000.
