LAHORE: As 90-day detention of Hafiz Saad Rizvi, leader of proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) was set to end on Saturday, the Punjab government issued a fresh notification of his preventive detention for another 90 days.
Rizvi was detained on April 12, 2021 under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance 1960 for 30 days with two extensions of the same days.
This time, the deputy commissioner of Lahore invoked his powers under Section 11 EEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and issued the order for detention of Rizvi for 90 days. On the other hand, the Supreme Court (Lahore registry) is set to hear on Monday a petition challenging the detention of Rizvi.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Sunday acted timely to repair some cracks that had appeared in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) by appeasing Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the issue of distribution of seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for the upcoming Senate elections on March 3.

Dawn that the JUI-F chief had some reservations over distribution of tickets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following which the PPP leadership held a meeting late on Saturday night and finalised candidates in consultation with Maulana Fazl.

HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman has said that opposition has not dragged army into politics but it is the “incompetent and selected prime minister” who has done this.
“When vacuum is left, such a situation is bound to arise,” she said while speaking to the media during her visit, along with other senior party leaders, to the venue of the public meeting of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Monday evening.
The event is scheduled to be held at Hatri bypass on Tuesday (today).
