Winchester City Council approves homes in Weeke | Hampshire Chronicle

AN infill development in Winchester has been approved, despite dismay that there will be no affordable housing. Developer Chris Rees and Alfred Homes applied to knock down four detached houses on 1-4 Woodpeckers Drive, Weeke, and build 19 new upmarket homes, a mix of flats and houses. The planning committee heard that the high cost of assembling the land had made having affordable housing unviable. But councillors argued that the scheme should have included an affordable element, either...

The planning committee approved amendments to houses being built by Shorewood Homes, off Downside Road, Teg Down. Earlier this year the council lost an appeal over the scheme after it had rejected amendments to one of the houses called Hazelwood, with its “unnecessarily restrictive” decisions criticised by the planning inspector who awarded partial costs against the city council. The proposed changes attracted seven objections and one neighbour, a Mr Spencer, told the committee there ...

Planners refuse radical plans for Homebase store over city centre concerns

WINCHESTER planners have resisted a proposal to radically alter an edge of town superstore in order to protect the city centre. City councillors say proposals by Royal London, for the Homebase store on Easton Lane, would damage the vitality of the High Street. Homebase oppose the application and says it wants to remain on the site with a new lease signed at the end of 2019 running until the end of 2024. Royal London said they will not try to change the store with Homebase there but were...
