to vice president pence, mark short, greg jacob, they were both asked during their grand jury testimony about the fake elector scheme and the roles of trump lawyers rudy giuliani and john eastman. this morning in additions, the new york times and washington post are reporting justice department investigators back in april received phone records from key officials and aides in the trump administration including chief of staff mark meadows. all of this as the attorney general himself, merrick garland, is speaking out in a new interview responding to criticism that the justice department isn t moving fast enough. let s begin with cnn s evan perez. he s been standing by. what more are you learning about the justice department s investigation here? how broad and far they re looking? reporter: well, in this interview with nbc yesterday, the attorney general, merrick garland, made clear that this is a very broad investigation. this is what he described it as, an investigatio

that was i wanted to ask you about gas prices. please do. they do continue to fall. do you think with that this almost of there crisis is over? can americans breathe easy now no that this marker of inflation that people feel so much, it won t spike again? let me be unequivocal about that. this is no victory lap. this is no all of these concerns are behind us. this is not at all, hey, we used to have inflation and now it s fine. far from it. when the president says inflation is unacceptably high, he means it. but look, i mean, part of what we re trying to do is present all of the information w. when it looks good we ll talk about that. when it s bad we ll be stateforward about that, too. if drivers are save being $40 a month. if you aggregate that across the country it s about $260 million a day of savings at the pump. that is a little bit of
is in a recession and how worried the country should be about entering a recession in light of this. the new york times put it this way today to paraphrase an old political adage, if you re explaining how recession calls are made, you re losing. do you see that, jared? no. i don t think so. i think we ve gotten into a technical discussion about what constitutes a recession. i think bringing the facts that the table is something that we as economic advisers have to do. i think what s more to the point is there ware a lot of people wo call it what you will. what they want to know is how far is their paycheck going. in that regard, look, there is absolutely some tough news regarding how high inflation s been, but there s also positive news that we should not overlook. i mean, the price at the pump is now $4.30 a gallon. that s down 70 cents off of its peak. so i was going to ask you about that, jared.
