After a serious motorcycle accident in April 2022, Ty Wells needed to find a new way to navigate UCLA’s hilly campus. Traveling between classes in their wheelchair proved difficult, but the fourth-year sociology student then discovered they were eligible for BruinAccess.

First, water started leaking from her kitchen ceiling. Then the coughing began.  Jaclyn Schwartz moved into Westwood Chateau, a UCLA-owned apartment, in September. The fourth-year biology student said she was excited to live near campus, but before the quarter was even halfway through, problems arose.

Multiple students and recent graduates have come forward with allegations about unsafe living conditions in UCLA-owned housing following a Daily Bruin investigation into the university apartment building Westwood Chateau.
